Which colour is this? is this the outermost layer which is usually the reddish colour or the coldest colour which wraps around??

    Hi GY162hurricanehunter,

It is the coldest layer that wraps all the way around continuously. So, if yellow, or blue do this select the yellow or blue hue that does so.

thank you! Also is the centre of storm always centre of picture even with shear?

Assuming that the best tracks dataset is correct yes the centre is always very near (but not exactly in) the middle of the image. However, just occasionally best tracks is wrong and so the storm centre will be displaced.

One other question? So, I came across many images which were just grey with no colours and nothing that appeared to be any kind of storm, so I chose no storm, is this right?

Yes, it would be no storm or post-tropical. Whichever you answered wouldn't skew the analysis
